Following a high employers’ growing demand for skilled and experienced workers in Newfoundland and Labrador, the two provinces have developed a new program known as ‘new immigration pathway’ to solve the labor challenge shortages. The new program, which will launch on January 2, 2021, will focus on highly educated and highly skilled candidates with work experience in specialized industries. Newfoundland and Labrador’s provincial government aim to retain newcomers already using the New immigration pathway.
Qualified individuals include Masters or Ph.D. graduates of Memorial University who graduated within the last three years with a degree related to information and communication technology, ocean technology, healthcare, agriculture, and aquaculture. Besides, professionals with work experience in UI/UX Developer, Software Developer, Electrical Engineer, Biomedical Engineer, Python Developer, AI Developer, Mechanical Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, NET Developer, Security Specialist, Bioinformatician, Cloud Specialist, and Computer Network Support will be considered.
The qualified individuals should demonstrate their English language proficiency by taking either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP). The candidates must score equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark level 5 or more.

The International Graduate category is for fresh graduates who have Post-Graduate Work Permit.
Express Entry, Skilled Worker category- It allows the province to recommend skilled staff through Canada’s federal Express Entry system. Nominated individuals need to have job offers in the region.
The Skilled Worker category targets individuals who have received a job offer from a company in the province and those already working in the area on a valid work permit.
The International Graduate Entrepreneur category provides a pathway to permanent residence for international graduates who wish to start or run a business within the province.
The International Entrepreneur category is for those who wish to settle in the province and start a business. Candidates are required to operate their business for one year in the region before applying.
People who wish to reside in Newfoundland and Labrador can also apply through the Atlantic Immigration Pilot, but they must also have a job offer in the province.
