The Blues opened their pre-season campaign against Scottish side Bohemians but they were forced to settle for a draw at Dalymount Park on Wednesday night.
Michy Batshuayi netted the first goal of Lampard’s era. The goal came early after just eight minutes as the Blues looked to heading in the right direction under the new boss.
But Eric Molloy cancelled out what was to be a win with an 89th minute effort.
All eyes were on Lampard’s selection before kickoff. Willy Caballero started in goal with Cesar Azpilicueta as the central defender.
In midfield, Danny Drinkwater and Kasey Palmer played on either side of Ethan Ampadu. Batshuayi was the notable figure up front and he was the one who impressed the most inside the first 45 minutes.
The striker was extremely sharp and quickly showed his importance to Lampard by opening the accounts in the 8th minute. He blasted home from close range after Kenedy had a shot deflected into the Belgium’s path.
The second half saw the entire team swapped with new faces.
Kurt Zouma and Tiemoue Bakayoko, who both spent last season on loans, were summoned from the bench alongside youths Lewis Baker, Billy Gilmour and Izzy Brown.
Bakayoko and Gilmour almost doubled the Blues’ lead, but opposition goalkeeper James Talbot made two magnificent saves before the Bohs got a dramatic late equaliser.
Keith Ward too advantage of a loose ball and laid it through for Molloy, who fired into the net to level matters.
Chelsea had an opportunity to grab a winner but Ike Ugbo didn’t do enough to convert Brown’s cross as the hosts held on for a share of the spoils.
