Thompson entered the injury list in the second game on Sunday and missed the end of the game. The right hamstring strain he suffered hindered his presence in the third game.
The Warriors allowed Thompson out of one game. The decision was made to make sure that he recovers fully before entering the field again. The decision was made half an hour before the start of the third game.
Warriors Coach Steve Kerr told Doris Burke of ESPN before the game began that Thompson will miss the third game, but will likely play in the fourth game.
The Warriors decided to rest him in the third game for his wellbeing as well as for the team. If they rushed him to action, they could have seen him hurt himself and thus would have rendered him to unavailable in the rest of the series. The Warriors are hoping that Thompson will regain his strength for the rest of the series.
Warriors lost to Toronto 123-109 on Wednesday night.
