It seems that there is a possibility of the National Lottery of Belgium (Loterie Nationale) to change ownership for the first time in its history. According to the latest news, Jannie Haek, CEO of Loterie Nationale has stated that privatization of the lottery would be a great opportunity for local investors. Jannie Haek believes that placing the lottery on the Stock Exchange to wait for a bidder would be the next rational move. Haek also mentioned a potential bidder, French company Française des Jeux.
Haek’s statement hasn’t thrilled everyone. Deputy Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said that it is not Haek’s decision to privatize the lottery.
“The CEO can wish it, but we, the Government, are the owners. It’s for the owners to decide what they do with the company,” Alexander De Croo said. De Croo added that the next government will decide on the lottery. “I do not wish to prejudge the facts. A new government will soon be formed, I hope.”
