Just for the Win’s Regal New Entry
Just for the Win is one of the most high-profile partners that Microgaming works with. Given the close level of cooperation between the two developers, it is no surprise that whenever JFTW unveils a new game, it tends to be something of a fairly special release. While the theme of their latest effort, Rising Royals, may be somewhat generic; there is undoubtedly something likeable about its gameplay.
Being unveiled at Microgaming casinos this December, the Rising Royals slot is, of course, themed on royalty. There are shades of the French monarchy, as well as the Georgian period of the British monarchy about the game, too. Everything is regal and royal, but how will the gameplay hold up against the many other similarly themed slots around? After all, Rising Royals is not going to be short of competition.
JFTW and Microgaming’s Partnership Blossoms
Just for the Win (JFTW) debuted in 2016, and immediately formed a close partnership with Microgaming, the oldest developer of online slot games. Theirs is a partnership which goes beyond the customary distribution deal that Microgaming offers smaller developers. While Just for the Win’s slots do still appear on Microgaming’s Quickfire platform, the larger provider also has an input into the development of the game.
This, understandably, means that Rising Royals (and other games like it) can often be played in a similar to a run-of-the-mill Microgaming slot. This small operator has had quite a degree of success from this kind of relationship. To date, thirteen games have been launched by Just for the Win, including the recently acclaimed Tiki Vikings.
Speaking on the launch of the game, Microgaming’s Director of Global Operations, James Buchanan had this to say:
“Just For The Win’s latest creation is an entertaining online slot that is equally rich in both graphics and features. The Symbol Lock Re-spin and Symbol Upgrade combine to add tremendous excitement with players looking for a full grid of the Rising Royals symbol, offering the potential for fantastic wins.”
How well Rising Royals does compared to those titles remains to be seen. You can find out for yourself, though, as this slot is now live at all Microgaming powered casinos and those running the Quickfire platform.
About Rising Royals
Rising Royals debuts this month as a 5-reel, 20-line slot. The hallmarks of Microgaming are clear for all to see in the wagering menu, which can be used to stake anything from 0.10 up to 250.00 a spin. Like many other Microgaming titles, this historical-themed slot is a medium variance release, so it should be suitable for players on all sorts of budgets.
As is often the case in Microgaming-inspired slots, the game’s title logo appears as both a wild and the best-paying icon in the game. These symbols can dole out wins worth up to 15x a bet per line, or up to 320x a bet if they appear across the reels. This is considerably smaller than the prizes which are available in many other royalty-themed gambling games.
What to Expect in Terms of Features
Both re-spin and symbol upgrade goodies are up for grabs in this release. Before we get to those, though, we should look at Rising Royals’ symbol lock mode. This is triggered following any winning combo appearing on the reels, save for royal icons. Once it begins, the winning symbols will lock into position, triggering a re-spin. Further winning icons will also lock into place, offering a further round of re-spins. This only stops when no new wins occur.
As for the symbol upgrade bonus, there is a meter beside the reels which handles this. Any locked symbols which appear will upgrade to the next highest paying symbol once the meter is full, giving players a chance to land more substantial and more prosperous wins during the symbol lock bonus round.

There aren’t too many overcomplicated features in this game, which will no doubt delight fans of simpler slots. There is enough originality about the game’s features to impress, though, even if the theme itself is a little tired and worn.
The addition of locking symbols, a re-spin bonus and upgradeable symbols is a nice touch and one we don’t often see in Microgaming slots. This implies that JFTW has been hands-on with that part of the slot’s development.
