Rating Group has decided to reveal some rather interesting facts related to Ukraine. It seems that, according to the Group’s recent survey, 58% of the Ukrainians are against gambling legalization in the country. The remaining 48% are all in support of it.
The Ukrainian parliament has released the full text of the draft gambling bill just recently, and the new draft bill was supposed to legalize igaming, online betting, online poker, and retail bookmaking. It seems that public opinion about this matter is not all roses as some have though.
Ihor Halytsky, the gambling analyst and expert, tried to explain the government’s reasoning in all this.
“Operators of numerical lotteries are already subject to 30% income tax, while they work legally and pay all taxes and fees. At the same time, illegal sites are, in principle, prohibited by law, but they supposedly may operate throughout the transitional period, even more so, for a minimal fee,” Halytsky said.
For now, Ukraine will allow only 10 casino licenses, 10 online betting licenses, and 5 online poker licenses. Also, there will be 20 casino licenses granted to five-star hotels, and that will happen only if the hotels have a minimum of 150 rooms available (in Kiev, the hotel will need 200 rooms for a license). Besides all this, 80 retail bookmaker licenses will be issued too.
