Veikkaus, Finnish Gambling monopoly, has decided to curtain down encouragement to gambling and has ramped up player protection controls. As per the plans, the monitoring would ensure that there are no encouragements to excessive gambling and at the same time an Ethics Council will be set up to further strengthen the social responsibility.
As per the new safeguarding measures, a “liability control” will be set up. It would be a continuous monitoring process which would flag any promotion or offer that encourage excessive gambling. The operators would make necessary changes whenever a flag is raised.
These whole new setups came weeks after Veikkaus suspended all the non-lottery ads till September. There was a huge public outcry on the ads that were allegedly promoting excessive gambling. Olli Sarekoski, Chief Executive of Veikkaus admitted that the company made mistakes and all promotions and ads are suspended to investigate further.
Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, the operator’s chair said the social responsibility principles are the core for the Veikkaus operations s and the board constantly monitors and evaluates the gambling-related issues faced by the customers. Veikkaus board has already approved the Ethics Council. However, the operator’s executive management team would further draw the plans and present them in the next board meeting.
The plans for Veikkaus are however even more detailed and proactive. The operator is firmed about reducing the slot machines across Finland. The ID verification safeguards would also be integrated into the gambling machines. On the other hand, the number of terminals would be reduced across the country as well. The table games from restaurants and Pelaamo arcade chain have already been removed.
The new changes may bring some joy to the people. As per a survey conducted by Bilendi, a polling expert, two-third of Finland want the end of the monopoly of Veikkaus. A licensing system for offshore is the preferred option for Finnish people, the survey suggested.
