Whenever the question ‘who is the best football player in the world’ pops up, only two names could be the possible answer: Messi or Ronaldo.
However, their reign is almost coming to an end as the years go by. As we all know, there is also younger and brilliant talent coming up.
According to Xavi, former Barca legend, players who could take over the title are Mohamed Salah, Neymar Jr., Kylian Mbappe and Raheem Sterling.
Although Neymar Jr. has been considered the most natural successor of Messi and Ronaldo, his move to PSG has been the reason for his stalling career. In the last two seasons for instance, the Brazilian has been on and off the pitch following injuries. To make it to the top, Neymar has to up his falling game.
Kylian Mbappe could also be crowned the best player having transitioned into a lethal scorer. Apart from being the 2018 world cup winner, he has netted 39 goals in all his competitions. For Mbappe, moving away from the French Football would land him the title.
Next in line is the Red’s forward, Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has proved himself time and again however his consistency is lacking. While he scored 44 goals in his 2017/18 debut, this season he is 17 goals short so to make it to best player, Mo Salah will have to improve his stats.
Lastly, Raheem Sterling could be the next best player. The Man City winger had incredible seasons since 2017 and if he keeps it up, he is most likely to be crowned the best player in the world.
