Newcastle suffered a humiliating 4 – 0 defeat at the hands of Wolves and on the day Steve Bruce was confirmed as new Magpies boss.
It is clear Steven Bruce has plenty of work to do as his side started pre-season with a serious hammering at the Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre on Wednesday.
Wolves opened the scoring through a powerful Diogo Jota effort in the 15th minute.
Morgan Gibbs-White added a second in similar fashion just after the half-hour, following Johnny’s good work that put him on goal.
With five minutes to go to half-time, Newcastle United made a defensive blunder, Isaac Hayden failing to clear a cross and allowing Jota to steal the ball and fire again past goalkeeper Darlow.
Both sides made several changes in the second period but things only got worse for Newcastle as Thomas Allan scored into his net in the 84th minute.
Wolves will face either City or West Ham in the final, while Newcastle will play the loser of the second semi-final.
