The city of Yokohama announced the appointment of a selection committee to choose the private operator that will be responsible for the IR project. The selection will be made according to the norms established in the ordinances of the city.
“It is necessary to establish appropriate selection systems, such as a third-party committee, to ensure fair scrutiny,” says the draft Basic IR Policy designed by the local government.
With the establishment of the committee, the city seeks the strict implementation of this policy. The committee will consist of no more than seven members and all of them must be experts in various areas such as regional economy, tourism and MICE, urban planning, disaster prevention and game dependence.
As part of the work that the selection committee will develop, there will be the evaluation of the business plans presented by the aspiring IR operators, within the public offer to the city. When the committee has selected the operator, they will inform Mayor Hayashi in the second half of 2020.
Mayor Hayashi will be the one with the last word to confirm the selected IR operator. Both the city and the operator will draw up a joint area improvement plan, which will be presented for final approval to the city council in July 2021, by means of a city council resolution.
